Finding Your Normal

Finding Your Normal

'Finding Your Normal' involves 'Finding Your Peace!'

Normal-How Do You Find ‘Your’ Normal?

Normal-what is it?  I’d like to share a story, where a young woman attempts to answer this question for herself.  Please enjoy the story and leave your thoughts in the comment section.

Clutter Interferes With Normal

Maggie bought and had installed new flooring for the bathroom, kitchen and her bedroom just before leaving on vacation.  She also hired a handy man to do some needed repairs. The house looked nice after the changes, and looked more normal to her.  ”What does it take to feel normal on the inside?” she wondered.

Since retiring, there wasn’t any reason for Maggie to stay in one place,  and she was beginning to feel trapped by owning a home.  Since going through a recent barrage of stressing issues, a spirit of restlessness seemed to infiltrate everything.  ”It’s time to change what is ‘normal’ for me.  Life is becoming stagnant,” she thought.

Maggie thought about the furniture, books, jewelry and novelty items that needed to go back into the bedroom.  The computer room is now in chaos temporarily storing all of this stuff.   There’s only a small trail leading through the computer room to the bedroom.  Clutter invaded even her mind, making it difficult to think clearly.

Peace-The Foundation For Normal

While on vacation, Maggie thought that moving closer to the beach would be a great change.  Walking along the beach, with the waves plummeting the shore, a sense of peace entered her very being.  Every step seemed to say, “This is where I want to live.”

How does one get back to normal, after returning from such a great vacation?   Maggie even recorded the sound of the waves breaking against the shore.  She wanted to remind herself just how much she enjoyed walking on the beach, listening to the seagulls, feeling the warmth of the sun and the salty air.

Even though Maggie was happy returning to her pets and her own bed, and it was time to begin making some changes in her life.  These changes would be good for her, yet, she knew from experience, that any change is uncomfortable at first.  Maggie knew in order to accomplish her goals, disciplining her time was important.  She knew that life is too short to feel trapped by anything or anyone, and it is important living every single day to the fullest.

One day Maggie’s friend, Ashley, was staying a couple of days, and Maggie had told Ashley to use her car to run some of her errands.  Ashley popped her head in Maggie’s room early in the morning to say she was about to leave.  Maggie rolled over and said, “I’m not ready to get up yet.”

Her ever-supportive ally said, “Be at peace, my friend!”

Wow!  “Be at Peace!” Maggie repeated this phrase several times out loud and in her head.  She realized peace is what will help life return to normal.  Peace is to normal what music is to the violin or what a sweet fragrance is to the flower.   With that thought, Maggie drifted off to sleep at peace knowing that a normal life contains love, joy and peace.

Hoping all my readers will, “Be at peace! and find ‘your’ normal by finding ‘your peace!

Please check out this post about peace from a fellow blogger. Also, you might enjoy a post I wrote about maintaining peace and balance in one’s life.

Ramblings For The Soul

Ramblings for the Soul

Ramblings For The Soult

Ramblings For The Soul

Ramblings For The Soul” is a combination of thoughts, affirmations and inspirational sayings I found or wrote, while I recovered from mental and physical stresses during the first quarter of 2012.

I pondered these “Ramblings for the Soul” during this time, which gave me enlightenment for my inner spirit.  In an earlier post, I wrote a short poem about choosing our future each and every day.

In case you aren’t aware, I underwent shoulder surgery December 28, 2011, and then helped a relative, who was having some serious mental issues.  On February 21, 2012, I was in a car accident, which left me with five broken ribs all on the same side.  Though managing my blog was too much to handle after the accident, writing down these “Ramblings For The Soul” helped me to get through the stress and physical healing.

Ramblings For The Soul As The Body Heals

Needless to say, managing these difficult situations held most of my attention.  However, the failure to nourish my soul, resulted in negative thinking.  With the aid of a wonderful meditative site, I realized I was robbing myself of peace and joy.  That is the point where I began to move in a positive forward motion.

Rambling For The Soul Helps To Share

In writing this blog, I openly share my personal struggles.  I can’t expect others to believe what I write about, if I haven’t dealt with similar issues.  Hopefully, my writings, as well as my own personal battles, will help my readers on their individual journeys.

Ramblings Of The Soul During My Recovery

To share from the heart, brings peace to the soul.

May I not forget to give thanks for all that I have, so I can embrace perfect love.

May I live and breathe in joy and peace, with love as my guide.

While I can’t choose all the circumstances life brings, I can choose how I react to each event.

A negative retort produces a negative outcome.  May I pick my battles with love in mind, so that the focus is on peace and joy.

I look beyond what ‘is’ and reach for what ‘is’
Possible!

Ramblings for the soul bring a sense of being at one with the world.  Peace and joy infiltrate my being, as love reigns-in any selfish desire to be ‘right or to win’.

I have not failed if I grow and learn from my mistakes.

Till next time, may Light make your path clear, may Wisdom be your guide and may Love lead you in this journey called “Life”.

Stormy Days-A Testing Ground!

Wait for the rainbow after the stormy days

Wait For The Rainbow After The Stormy Days!

Stormy Days

In life there are many sunny days, which keep a smile on your face.  At other times, there are the clouds and rain, which make it difficult to see what lies ahead and would try to bring your spirits down.  Yet, these days don’t last too long, and we are able stay positive and make it through.

However, it is the stormy days which seem so overpowering, like an onslaught of rain, hail, flooding, and other forms of severe weather.  These days come in the form of one difficult event after another unrelentingly crashing into us and compiling problem after problem, which need one to deal with.  These are the days that attempt to cause us to feel off-balance; to destroy our faith and our positive attitude.   This is what I am going through now.  I think my Higher Power is testing me to see if what I write about here on my site is something I actually do in my life.

Recently there are some unforeseen issues to deal with, which include family issues, health problems and, most recently, a car accident.  The accident has left me with some bruised and broken ribs, so this makes doing much of anything painful and tiring.   I have not been able to keep up with my regular posting schedule because of these recent events (stormy days).   I have been somewhat negligent with my meditation time, which is one thing I really want to get back to.  For some reason it is difficult to go there, and I am still working on this one.  Any suggestions are welcome.

How To Get Through The Stormy Days

Family And Friends-A Life Jacket During Stormy Days

During the last few months, I have discovered how easy it is to fall into the ‘poor me’ mentality, and wallow in misfortune.  However, I have some wonderful family and friends, who are always quick to remind me of just how blessed I am, and to quickly and lovingly reprimand me when I become negative.  They are my life-jacket during the stormy days, and I am so grateful for each and every one of them.

    Readers-A Wonderfully Supportive Community

I haven’t forgotten all of my wonderful readers, and wanted to let everyone know how much you are appreciate.  My readers have continued to support me, so I want to let you  what is going on with me.  I haven’t abandoned my blog, but have taken a break to deal with the things I’ve described above.  I will post when possible until this the stormy days are over and things are somewhat normal again.

My readers have also given me much-needed support during this time.  Just like the rest of the world, I also go through my share of heartache and pain.  I am working at staying positive and looking at the good things.  I don’t deny that bad things happen; I’m just dealing with them in the best way I know, realizing that there are better days ahead.

Prayers and positive thoughts are much appreciated so that I can get back to doing what I love to do, which is to write. Thank you for all your support.  I will soon be seeing the rainbow in the sky bringing blessings of hope, joy, peace and happiness.

Please feel free, as always, to leave any questions, comments, opinions, ideas you want.  Also, any stories you would like to share about similar experiences would be helpful to me, as well as my readers.

Till next time, may Light make your path clear, may Wisdom be your guide and may Love lead you in this journey called “Life”.

Another Reason To Smile!

Smile and the world smiles with you

Just being with my family makes me Smile! At my son's house at Christmas with my 'grandpuppy,' Suey!

Remember To Smile

Do you remember that song, “When You’re Smiling” by Louis Armstrong?  Click on the song, and you can read the lyrics and hear the song.  I love this song!  It makes me smile just listening to it!

A Reason To Smile

On my birthday this year, a friend of mine gave me the most precious gift.  It is a book, 1,033 Reasons to Smile’ by Elizabeth Dutton.   This little book is so great because it reminds you that there is always a reason to smile.

As I was thinking about the book and this post, I wondered what reason could I give for smiling.  Well, here is my reason:

Because I can.”  “I love how just the act of smiling gives me a positive and overall good feeling.  It opens up the door to my inner being so joy can brighten my day and color my world with wonder!”

Note To Readers

Hi to all my readers!

First of all, I’d like to thank everyone who has left me such kind messages and wishes for my speedy recovery.  I think I must have the best following of readers than any other blogger on the web!!

Now for an update on how I’m doing after my surgery.  My shoulder has given me more discomfort this week, so have taken some pain pills, which I hate because they leave me kind of fuzzy.  I don’t know how anyone could be addicted to narcotics since it interferes with one’s clarity of mind.

Anyway, I have an exercise chair that moves my arm, and it takes about three hours a day of sitting in this chair to get the right amount of exercise.  I realized the other day that my settings on the chair were wrong and today found out that the arm holder was not right. I was beginning to have more pain, back spasms and neck pain so I had the company come out and check out the chair. They corrected everything and said no damage happened to my arm or its mobility, so that was good. No wonder I get so tired. I expect I will recover fine and be better again soon.

I have really missed not being able to post as regularly as I before my surgery to. Hopefully, the worst is behind me. Please continue to come visit my site and leave your comments.

Don’t Forget To Smile!

Till next time, may Light make your path clear, may Wisdom be your guide and may Love lead you in this journey called “Life”.

Surgery And Pain Bring Limits

I just wanted to remind my readers that I am limited on writing very much since I have had shoulder surgery.  I see my surgeon on Thursday and hope to have more use of my left hand.

The surgery went well, and pain is not too bad.   I sleep a lot, and am hoping I will get better quickly.  When the sling is removed perhaps I will be able type more without pain.

Till next time, may Light make your path clear, may Wisdom be your guide and may Love lead you in this journey called “Life”.

A New Year = Taking Action & Setting Goals!

A New Year = Taking Action & Setting Goals!

Take Action With Setting Goals To Make A Difference!

The New Year is here! What does this mean for you? Do you make several resolutions and then give up on them in a month or two? Do you do nothing and just see what unfolds throughout the year? Perhaps you just toast a glass of champagne and hope for the best!

To me, the New Year is a time to start over and fresh. It means a time to take action and set new ‘GOALS‘! Did you hear that? I said ‘GOALS‘! That’s right, not ‘Resolutions‘. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary this is the meaning of the word “Resolution:”

a : the act of analyzing a complex notion into simpler ones
b : the act of answering : solving
c : the act of determining
d : formal expression of opinion, will, or intent voted by an official body or assembled group.

I am not going to analyze-I am going to take ‘ACTION‘! I’m not really solving any problem, though I will bring a positive enrichment to my life. I’ve already determined what I need to do to carry out a positive reward.

Making a ‘GOAL‘ is more than a resolution. It is more than a formal expression or opinion, will or intent. A ‘GOAL‘ is described by the same dictionary as:

a : the act or action of causing a ball or puck to go through or into such a goal

Being from the Northern part of the US, I love hockey, and this sport is full of action. In order to get a goal in hockey, one must take “ACTION“, which involves getting the puck into the opponent’s net! ACTION! In terms of a race, ‘ACTION‘ is taken to finish the race. A person can think about and analyze all they want, but if they don’t get their feet moving, there is no way they will finish the race.

Therefore, every New Year I make ‘GOALS‘, then write them down and put them somewhere so I can see them often. Checking them often and monitoring my progress is very helpful in producing the results and finishing the goals by year’s end. Life often will put uncontrollable obstacles in front of us, and this is normal. Sometimes one may have to adjust their goals or allow more time to complete them.

Below are my ‘GOALS‘ from 2011:

1. BALANCE IN MY LIFE= Meditating for 66 days in a row helped me to accomplish this goal.

2. EAT HEALTHY = Accomplished during first part of year, and fell short towards end. Will continue in new year.

3. DO THINGS JUST FOR MYSELF = Accomplished by joining a blogging group, taking some trips, took in some movies, joined LA Fitness, spent more time with friends.

4. WRITE DAILY EITHER IN BLOG, SHORT STORIES, NOVEL OR NON-FICTION ARTICLES = I joined NaNoWriMo which helped to put emphasis the writing process. I was able to write most days.

By keeping my yearly goals in front of me, I was able to keep tabs on how I was doing. When I didn’t accomplish one, I carried it on to the next year. Sometimes, I have found that a goal I made the previous year was not a goal any longer, so I just dropped it. I didn’t chide myself for not completing a goal, which takes the pressure off and  gives more power and determination.

Here are my ‘GOALS‘ for 2012:

1. DEVELOP A BETTER DAILY ROUTINE FOR WRITING
2. WRITE TWO E-BOOKS
3. FINISH NOVEL AND HAVE READY TO SUBMIT TO PUBLISHER BY END OF YEAR
4. BEGIN PROCESS OF MOVING TO CA
5. JOIN WEIGHT WATCHERS AND EAT HEALTHIER

Feel free to check with me during the coming year to see how I am progressing in these goals. Someone to keep me accountable and on task is a great motivator.

Now, tell me what your goals will be for the new year. Please leave your comments, ideas, stories and questions below in the ‘comment’ section.

P.S.  I am having shoulder surgery today, which may limit my ability to type for a bit.  I will reply to all comments and write a new post as soon as possible.  Thank you to all my readers and Happy New Year!

Till next time, may Light make your path clear, may Wisdom be your guide and may Love lead you in this journey called “Life”.

NEVER QUIT!

It's not the winning, it's the finishing that is important.

Finishing your race is the important thing.

Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment. Full effort is full victory.  Mahatma Gandhi

If the word quit is part of your vocabulary, then the word finish is likely not. B.G. Jett

Today I read an article written by a photography blogger, Larry Lourcey.  His latest post is ‘NEVER QUIT.‘  In this recent post, he tells the story of Julie Moss and her first triathlon experience.

Usually I visit the sites of some of my favorite bloggers, and today I was very inspired after reading this marvelous post.  Recently, it has been difficult trying to get ready for the Holidays and having an upcoming left shoulder surgery right after Christmas.   Feeling a bit overwhelmed at the things I have to still finish, this story inspired me to just relax, do what I can do and not to worry about the things I’m unable to complete.

This story also reminded me of when I was a young mother I decided to jog.  Running for long distances wasn’t something that  interested me, yet the exercise helped to relieve stress and keep me in shape. My children sometimes joined me in the 5K races I occasionally ran, which made the experience even more exciting.  One specific 5K race, my two sons were racing with me, and they both were on their way back while I was still running the first part of the race.

My youngest son said to me as he passed me going in the opposite direction, “Mom, you’ll never win if you don’t pick it up!”

My oldest son had already passed me so it was pretty clear that I would not win this race.  Looking over at my youngest son I said, “I am not always a winner, but I am a finisher!”  He laughed and continued on.

I am thankful to Larry for writing this wonderfully inspiring and encouraging post.  In  reading this story, I was reminded how winning is not always the important thing in beginning a new goal or adventure.  It is far more important to finish what you have begun.

I would recommend my readers go to Larry’s website and read this post, ‘NEVER QUIT.’ I know after reading this article, you will want to read some of this other articles as well. Larry is a photographer and writes about this creative art. However, as you will find out when you visit his site, he writes about many other things as well. While you are at his site, be sure to check out his Portfolio. Please leave him a comment when you visit.

Please leave your comments, questions, ideas and share your stories with me. I am always so glad to hear what my readers have to say. Happy Holidays to all my readers!

Till next time, may Light make your path clear, may Wisdom be your guide and may Love lead you in this journey called “Life”.

This Christmas Will You Be A Helper For Santa Claus?

my first Christmas adventure with grandma

This Can Be The Year You Discover The Meaning Of Christmas For Yourself.

This story was shared on Facebook by a high school classmate of mine. Researching who the author is to this story, showed no known author. I did find that the story has been put into book form by Bert Dodson, who the illustrates of this wonderful story by an unknown author.  If you want to purchase this illustrated version of the story, you can do so at Amazon.

I remember my first Christmas adventure with Grandma. I was just a kid. I remember tearing across town on my bike to visit her on the day my big sister dropped the bomb: “There is no Santa Claus,” she jeered. “Even dummies know that!”

My Grandma was not the gushy kind, never had been. I fled to her that day because I knew she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told the truth, and I knew that the truth always went down a whole lot easier when swallowed with one of her “world-famous” cinnamon buns. I knew they were world-famous, because Grandma said so. It had to be true.

Grandma was home, and the buns were still warm. Between bites, I told her everything. She was ready for me. “No Santa Claus?” she snorted….”Ridiculous! Don’t believe it. That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad, plain mad!! Now, put on your coat, and let’s go.”

“Go? Go where, Grandma?” I asked. I hadn’t even finished my second world-famous cinnamon bun. “Where” turned out to be Kerby’s General Store, the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. That was a bundle in those days. “Take this money,” she said, “and buy something for someone who needs it. I’ll wait for you in the car.” Then she turned and walked out of Kerby’s.

I was only eight years old. I’d often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people scrambling to finish their Christmas shopping.

For a few moments I just stood there, confused, clutching that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy, and who on earth to buy it for.

I thought of everybody I knew: my family, my friends, my neighbors, the kids at school, the people who went to my church.

I was just about thought out, when I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker. He was a kid with bad breath and messy hair, and he sat right behind me in Mrs. Pollock’s grade-two class. Bobby Decker didn’t have a coat. I knew that because he never went out to recess during the winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but all we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn’t have a cough; he didn’t have a good coat. I fingered the ten-dollar bill with growing excitement. I would buy Bobby Decker a coat!

I settled on a red corduroy one that had a hood to it. It looked real warm, and he would like that.

“Is this a Christmas present for someone?” the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down. “Yes, ma’am,” I replied shyly. “It’s for Bobby.”

The nice lady smiled at me, as I told her about how Bobby really needed a good winter coat. I didn’t get any change, but she put the coat in a bag, smiled again, and wished me a Merry Christmas.

That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat (a little tag fell out of the coat, and Grandma tucked it in her Bible) in Christmas paper and ribbons and wrote, “To Bobby, From Santa Claus” on it. Grandma said that Santa always insisted on secrecy. Then she drove me over to Bobby Decker’s house, explaining as we went that I was now and forever officially, one of Santa’s helpers.

Grandma parked down the street from Bobby’s house, and she and I crept noiselessly and hid in the bushes by his front walk. Then Grandma gave me a nudge. “All right, Santa Claus,” she whispered, “get going.”

I took a deep breath, dashed for his front door, threw the present down on his step, pounded his door and flew back to the safety of the bushes and Grandma. Together we waited breathlessly in the darkness for the front door to open. Finally it did, and there stood Bobby.

Fifty years haven’t dimmed the thrill of those moments spent shivering, beside my Grandma, in Bobby Decker’s bushes. That night, I realized that those awful rumors about Santa Claus were just what Grandma said they were — ridiculous. Santa was alive and well, and we were on his team.

I still have the Bible, with the coat tag tucked inside: it reads “$19.95.”

May you always have LOVE to share,

HEALTH to spare and FRIENDS that care…

And may you always believe in the magic of Santa Claus!

I hope you have enjoyed reading this story. As always, be leave your ideas, stories, comments and any questions you may have.

Till next time, may Light make your path clear, may Wisdom be your guide and may Love lead you in this journey called “Life”.

Holiday Blues – 7 Steps To Gain Control Over Them

Holiday Blues and how to take steps to get through the Holiday Season

Make a plan to get through the Holiday Season with a smile!

I thought I was safe this year, but about a week ago the Holiday Blues hit me. There’s nothing I’m depressed about, but I have to force myself to do just about everything. Trying to write a post has been so difficult that I just couldn’t get one started this week. Finally I decided to write about how this ‘horrible malady’  and how to take control of it.  Depression and feeling lonely during the Holidays is something that affects a lot of people.

Senior citizens, the elderly and single people are especially at risk as they live alone or, in the case of the elderly, live in a place that is not their home.  I spent time today looking into ‘SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder),’ which affects a lot of people during the winter months.  Last year I had to take mega doses of Vitamin D because the level was so low in my body. Now I take it daily.

So now, even while writing this, finding some method to get back to living is very important.  Depression can make a person feel as f they have no control about what is happening to them.  Therefore, it is important to develop a plan to regain your power.

1.  Discuss how your feel with your doctor. Ask your doctor about checking your Vitamin D level.

2.  Get outside and take in some sunshine or sit by a sunny window.

3.  Do some form of exercise. It doesn’t have to be much. Even a small amount will help release endorphins which help relieve Depression and Stress.

4.  Get out of the house.  Enjoy the Holiday decorations and lights.

5.  Make arrangements to meet a friend.  If this is not possible, go to a coffee shop, café, the mall or a bookstore.  There are usually people in these places who are willing to strike up a conversation.

6. Do something special for someone else.  The act of giving has its own reward.

7. Do something special for myself.  Go to a movie, take a walk in the sunshine, roam the mall and watch the people around you.  Notice the excited faces of the children who are anticipating Santa Claus.

Getting past the Holiday Blues is important to our emotional and mental health. Let’s take our power back and say, “Goodbye” to depression and stress during this Holiday Season.

Join me so we can find our way back to our ‘happy place’ in life and enjoy this special time of the year.  Please share with me how you are managing, and I’ll do the same.  Please share with me and my readers any other ways you have used, or are using, to overcome the Holiday Blues.  Thank you for visiting my site and I welcome our thoughts, ideas, questions and any stories your want to share.

Till next time, may Light make your path clear, may Wisdom be your guide and may Love lead you in this journey called “Life”.
